Dear CCDA colleagues,
I would like to thank you for allowing me to serve as your president. As my term concludes this month, here’s a final update on the progress the organization has made over the past year.
The spring conference was a success with 122 attendees. I want to personally thank the planning committee, presenters, keynote speakers, and East L.A. College (ELAC) for hosting our conference. Please save the dates of October 5th and 6th for the Career Practitioner Institute (CPI) in collaboration with NCDA that takes place in Long Beach (https://ncda.org/aws/NCDA/pt/sp/cpinstitute).
The following are some of our accomplishments and challenges that have been completed or are in the process of being worked on.
- Fall Conference - The fall conference at San Jose State University was a success with 162 attendees.
- Website Migration – we completed the website migration onto a new platform.
- State Taxes & Corporate/Non-Profit Status – The paperwork has been completed to move the organization forward by settling any unpaid state taxes that has affected the corporate and non-profit status. Currently, we are awaiting a reply from the state to find out if we have to pay back taxes or if the state will waive fees due to the non-filing of taxes in the past.
- Five-Year Strategic Plan – the organization is moving forward with a five-year strategic plan that CCDA President-Elect Markell Morris will be spearheading during the board retreat that takes place next month.
Our membership is at 256 members and is continually growing. My goal has been to be a beneficial presence to you and the organization by positioning and improving its structure, processes, and procedures so that the organization is self-sustaining regardless of its leadership. My intention has been to be transparent while offering vision and being of service. I am filled with gratitude and honored as you have entrusted me to lead the organization.
I would like to personally thank the following hard working board members for their service: Carmell Stoianov, Esmeralda Martinez, Markell Morris, Lisa Raufman, Carrie McKnight, Sherilyn Ashena, Nicole Fogelman, Anne-Marie Beck, and Tina Hoang.
Although I will not be president of CCDA I will still be around as the past-president. On July 1st, Markell Morris becomes your next CCDA president. I have full confidence that Markell’s leadership will continue to improve and grow the organization.
